Me Me Me Monday

I've had to keep this fairly secret as I made a pair for my mum, it was her birthday yesterday and she didn't realise they were home made she thought i'd bought them :)
I bought the sensationail led nail kit to try and get my nails to grow better and look nicer and after a week they all chipped while I was washing up :( they are *supposed* to last 14 days but friends and sensationail told me it was advisory to wear gloves while washing up or doing housework. I didn't want ordinary marigolds :)

You know how u told me to wear gloves for washing up well I've customised some, gonna send a set to my mum for mothers day :) @sensationailuk @imagingermonkey

I knew exactly what I wanted to do and literally made 3 pairs in like an hour, measured the gloves, cut out a 6" wide strip, ironed it in half and then gathered the rough edges to the glove size, sewed it into a circle and then just stitched it onto the gloves. Easy as pie :) and don't they look lovely, it's actually a pleasure to wash up now.

Mum and I both have the donut's but I had to try some zig zag sketch too :)
And a pink zig zag sketch pair, 3 pairs an hour. Never again will I have boring marigolds :)

DD want's a pair now but I need to buy her small size gloves so perhaps she'll get a pair next week :)

Fat Quarterly Friendship bag

It's been a busy week and with a sick daughter, lots of researching car insurance and trying to catch up after half term, I haven't had much time to sew BUT I've made a bag :)

I added bag feet and a piece of cardboard in base and didn't use zip pocket as I never actually put anything in pockets lol @sewsweetness @fatquarterly #friendshipbag

It's from the scrap issue of Fat Quarterly, designed by my favourite bag maker Sara from Sewsweetness. I loved this from the beginning and wanted to use up some more scraps. I spent some time sorting through my browns/oranges/teal/green and blue. I used green mirror dots for the lining and adapted the pattern slightly, didn't put in the zippered pocket as I don't use them much at all and tend to just shove everything in.

@fatquarterly @sewsweetness friendship bag finish from scrap issue.... All scraps and stash #stashbusting

I'm not sure what it is but I always have very baggy lining, I always tend to cut it about 1/2 an inch smaller anyway. I added some cute little bag feet because my bags get hard wear and it needed a bit of cardboard in the base to stiffen it up a bit more.
It's a scrummy bag reminds me of spring and I can't wait to use it tomorrow :) I can see some more of these in my future
Thanks Sara for another fab pattern

Primary Bee Bento Box block

It's that time when I hand my blog over to Amelia for her to tell you all about this month's primary bee block.

This month we had to make a bento box with bright pink, light pink and purple.  I chose a pink sketch and a hot pink sketch with purple rain (see the girl has taste like her mum and we're sketch girlies all the way)

Dd's #primarybee bento box block, two pink sketches and purple rain. So #proud of her

One afternoon we cut the fabric into strips and sewed some of them together.  Mum cut them with the rotary cutter but I was allowed to use the Bernina to sew.
Then this afternoon I've sewed the two halves together and then to make it into the block.
It was the 2nd hardest block so far I think.  I like it lots and might choose it for my turn in August.
Mum's sending it tomorrow (It's gone in the post today)  and it should be in America by Friday, hope the girl likes it.

its been a bee of a day

It's been a bu***r of a week so far, the kids are home for the 2nd week of their school holidays and I've come down with the most awful cold, hot eyes, snotty nose, flu like legs, headache the lot... ARGHHHH four days in now so fingers crossed it's on it's way out.

It has meant, I've been sitting around not wanting to go near a sewing machine but have been quite happy to make some hexi's.

I saw this pattern in one of last year's Quilters World for this gorgeous cushion,

I recognised the designer's name and it was indeed Joanna@shape-moth who was one of my EPP teachers at FQR last year.
I think the yellows, greys and black go really well. I enjoyed making this cushion and I think it'd be quite fab as a wall hanging too... sorry for the picture but the weather was appalling.
Finished cushion from last years quilters world, lots of hexies, do need a better pillow form and will blog tomorrow :)

There's some yellow sketch, two plain yellows, two different shades of grey and then black :)

I'm kinda loving hexi's again atm :)

Fresh Sewing Day

Lily's Quilts

It's that time of the month again, here's the mosaic

The little Rain mini was a very last minute finish but cute hanging on my sewing room wall.  I actually recovered two chairs in the last week, one for DS and a bright pink one for DD.
First go at a patchwork postcard, expect to see a few more in the next few months, I really enjoyed making it.  I got my February cross stitch done nice and early and my bee blocks.
There were two big quilt finishes, the starburst and the triangle quilt, all for my FALQ1 :) and the biggest finish of them all was my DD's bedroom, which is finally finished and we have a very happy 6 year old in her big girl bedroom.

I'm planning a fairly calm March, I've got a cushion I want to finish and not much else on, perhaps I'll get a few of the scissor quilt blocks done and maybe one of my remaining FAL's.

Linking up as always to lilys quilts
